DJ Ski

Owner and co-ordinator of Breakdown Productions, Ed's main musical roots stem from his father's love of Jazz. Being introduced to the sound at an early age (listening to Harris & Hancock tapes in the car), Ed took up Jazz Clarinet and Piano - which he continued until a degree in Electronic Engineering ate much of his spare time.

$ki began producing at 13, and in 1994 gained an evening & weekend job at a small studio in Hertfordshire. Though initially employed to make the tea and rig equipment, he soon became the chosen beat programmer for most of the studio's users. Paid solely in production time, the job let Ed gain valuable experience in a large studio, and allowed him to create more polished productions of his own - a handful of which were released under early aliases.

Throwing free outdoor parties in Scratchwood (Mill Hill) during the summers of '94 - '96 allowed Ed to play the music he loved to a crowd with the same attitude and love of a new Underground sound.

After being two timed by the studio & their label at the start of 1997, Ed left to begin his own projects as well as engineer for small Acid Jazz quartets in Farringdon. He created Breakdown in 1998, which now has two labels (Broken Wax / Breaking Down) and a brand new promotion & plugging arm (Wax Pushers).

Currently working as $ki, Elmo, The NW7 Project and various other pseudonyms, Ed has produced material for Island, Universal, Edel, Sony, 2Tuf 4U, Prolific, Solo, Point Blank and StayLocked to name a few.
